Sarah Albee: Repackaged Rubber

Silly Putty is made, in part, of boric acid and silicone oil. It was invented in the 1940s at the General Electric labs as a synthetic rubber. It became popular when a store owner in New Haven, CT, bought a lot of it and sold it in plastic eggs, which he called Silly Putty.
